It is filled with masculinity,no female characters, and the book's emphasis on the importance of experiencing the world through another view fits perfectly with our mission at Refocus Publishing. It is vital to remember that setting (the safety of the yacht vs. the danger of the island) and your role (the Hunter or the Hunted) can cause significantly different perspectives. We need to take the time to think about other's perspectives before solidifying our opinions. When Rainsford is forced to do so, she finds empathy where she had none and develops the strength to fight back in an unfair environment. The magnitude of this work is highlighted by its staying power in classrooms today. It is ready for it's first female character!
